A deeper purpose behind every word
MOCCA was founded on the belief that health literacy is not a luxury, it is a fundamental right. MOCCA improves the communication and performance of health businesses, so that their clients and members engage more meaningfully with the services already available to them.
Our mission
Raising the standard of health communication across Australia
The gap between what health professionals know and what clients understand is one of the most consequential, and most neglected, problems in modern healthcare. MOCCA exists to close it, one business, one community, one article at a time.
Health Literacy as a Foundation
A person who understands their own biology can make genuinely informed decisions about their health. We write so a client or member leaves a health encounter understanding why a test was ordered, what the results mean, and what to do about it. That understanding is what drives real engagement and lasting behaviour change.
Bridging Clients and Health Services
The best health service is only as effective as the communication around it. A client who does not understand a programme does not engage with it. MOCCA's work is about strengthening that connection, building trust, easing anxiety, and making healthcare feel less foreign and more human.
Evidence at the Centre
In a wellness content landscape of mixed quality, MOCCA holds a firm line. Everything produced is grounded in evidence and reviewed against current best practice, never designed to alarm, mislead, or oversell.
Commercial Success with Social Purpose
Excellent health communication is good for business, and good business can do genuine social good. Health businesses that work with MOCCA are contributing to a broader project too, raising the standard of health literacy across Australia, one community at a time.
About MOCCA
Built on a strong academic foundation
MOCCA was founded on an academic background in medical science and health communication, shaped by years of study and a close working knowledge of how evidence is built, communicated, and understood. That foundation shapes everything MOCCA produces. Understanding how the body works, how evidence is built, and how health information reaches, or fails to reach, people in moments of vulnerability is not something a generalist writer can bring. It takes depth, and it is the depth MOCCA brings to every brief.
Important: MOCCA Systems is a health communications and advisory business. It does not provide clinical medical services to individuals, does not operate as a medical practice, and does not hold itself out as providing medical advice. The professional and academic background described above informs the quality and accuracy of our communications work only.

This is the gap MOCCA works inside every day, from small health and wellness brands building trust with their first customers, through to larger health ventures being shaped and established from the ground up.
Looking further
Reaching rural, remote, and First Nations communities
The health literacy gap is not shared equally across Australia. In rural and remote communities, and particularly within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, barriers to health engagement are made worse by geography, cultural distance, and communications rarely designed with these audiences in mind.
MOCCA's longer-term vision is to extend its health communications work into these communities, developing culturally appropriate, genuinely useful health education resources for those who have historically been least well served by the healthcare system. Every commercial partnership today helps fund that work for tomorrow.
